Eventee displays the app time based on the default time zone and the app user's time zone. However, depending on the selected event type, the time zones work differently. So let's break down where the time zones are set up and how they work.
Where the time zone is set up
The default time zone is determined by the location of your event. The location can be set or changed in Settings → Event → Location.
Notes:
Always make sure you have set up a correct (and real) location before publishing your event.
Once your event day starts, the location cannot be changed.
Even if your event is virtual, you need to set up the location. More information about virtual events can be found below.
Time zones depending on the event type
The time zones work differently depending on the selected event type. How exactly? Well, let's dive into it!
In-person events
If you are organizing an in-person event, no further comments are needed. The displayed time is based on the location of the event. The time is the same for everyone.
Virtual events
For virtual events, you can have participants from all over the world, which also means they can be in different time zones. The app time adjusts to the participants' time zones and is counted from the default time zone, which means the time zone of the location you set at the beginning.
Example: You are in Vietnam (ICT), set the venue to Prague (CET), and a participant joins from Canada (EST). The time this particular participant sees is the converted time from CET to EST (from the standard time zone to the participant's time zone). Your current location does not matter in this case, you just need to ensure that you schedule the post in the Newsfeed correctly so that your participants receive it on time.
If the time zone of your current location does not match your standard time zone, you will be notified as soon as you enter the Newsfeed section in your administration.
Hybrid Events
Participants of hybrid events can choose between two modes - in-person or virtual. They can change their choice at any time in the settings.
Based on their choice, the app adjusts:
In-Person Mode - Sessions are displayed in the standard time zone
Virtual Mode - the time changes based on the user's time zone, just like it works for virtual events
Note: When scheduling Newsfeed posts for a hybrid event, they are always sent in the standard time zone. For example, if you set the location to the United Kingdom and schedule a post for 10 AM, the post will be sent at 10 AM UK time to everyone.
Event Countdown
There is a countdown on the event homepage and the event web app. Each of them shows something different, so there is no need to panic if you see different numbers.
Event Homepage - counts down to the start of the event day
Web App - counts down to the start of the very first session of the event
Apps vs. Event Homepage
Please note that the time zone is automatically adjusted only for mobile and web apps.
Since the event homepage is a public page created to promote your event, the time zone adjustment does not apply there.
Note: If you are unsure whether you are in the web app or on the event homepage, look at the URL. Unless you are using a CNAME, the URL for the web app starts with https://event.eventee.com/event, and the URL for the homepage starts with https://eventee.com/en/e.
